authentic thai experience

Born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, owner and head chef, Goo Imthawin, grew up in the bustling city, where the tantalizing aromas of street food lingered in the air. learned to cook from a very young age, watching elders in the family kitchen. His family originates from Kalasin, in the North east of Thailand which explains the Isaan cuisine influence in his cooking.
Goo relocated to South Africa in 1999 with his family, but returned to Thailand in 2011 for 6 months to become a monk. In Thai culture this is an important rite of passage and is, in a sense, a repayment of a debt owed to family members for being under their care as a young child and a show of respect to the elders. Drawing inspiration from these memories, Goo has embarked on a mission to bring the soul of Thai street food to Soi 55. His years of hospitality and cooking experience at a number of prestigious Durban restaurants and in his own Thai restaurants (Goo’s Asian Fusion was voted best Thai Restaurant in KZN for 3 consecutive quarters) have led him to this point of opening an upscale and contemporary Thai eatery on the bustling KZN North Coast.
